Facial Volume Loss

What is facial volume loss?

Facial volume loss refers to gradual changes in the fullness and contours of the face. These changes may occur over time and can affect different areas, including the temples, cheeks, around the eyes and lower face. The pattern and extent of volume loss varies considerably between individuals.

What causes facial volume loss?

Facial volume loss usually develops as a result of several factors working together, including:

The underlying cause varies from person to person, making an individual assessment an important part of the consultation.

Assessment

During your consultation, we’ll assess your face as a whole, including facial proportions, skin quality, soft tissues and the underlying facial structure. We’ll also assess how changes in one area may influence the appearance of another. Understanding the underlying cause helps determine whether management is appropriate for you.

Why assessment is important

Facial volume loss rarely affects just one area of the face. Changes in the temples, cheeks, around the eyes, jawline or lower face often occur together and contribute to overall facial balance. Without a comprehensive assessment, management may not address the underlying cause of the concern or achieve an outcome that meets your expectations. A careful assessment helps guide appropriate, individualised management.

Individualised management

During your consultation, we’ll discuss whether management is appropriate for your individual concerns. If so, we’ll explain the available options, together with the expected benefits, limitations and potential risks, so you can make an informed decision about your care.
