What are fine lines?
Fine lines are small, shallow lines that develop in the skin over time. They are often first noticed around the eyes, mouth and forehead but may occur anywhere on the face. Lines reduce skin smoothness which contributes to the skins glow. Fine lines are a common part of skin ageing and vary between individuals.
What causes fine lines?
Fine lines usually develop as a result of several factors working together, including:
The underlying cause varies from person to person, making an individual assessment an important part of the consultation.
Assessment
During your consultation, we’ll assess your skin quality, facial anatomy and the distribution of the fine lines. We’llalso consider factors that may influence skin health, helping us understand the underlying cause of your concern and whether management is appropriate for you.
Why assessment is important
Fine lines are not always caused by ageing alone. In some people, skin quality, sun exposure or repeated facial movement are the main contributors, while in others several factors are involved. Without a comprehensive assessment, management may not address the underlying cause of the concern. It is imperative we understand what skin care you are using and your sun protection habits. A careful assessment helps guide appropriate, individualised management.
Individualised management
During your consultation, we’ll discuss whether management is appropriate for your individual concerns. If so, we’ll explain the available options, together with the expected benefits, limitations and potential risks, so you can make an informed decision about your care.We will discuss the role Sun protection and evidence bases for skin care.During your consultation, we’ll discuss whether management is appropriate for your individual concerns.
