What are neck lines?
Neck lines are the horizontal lines or creases that develop across the neck. They may be present from a young age as part of an individual’s natural anatomy or become more noticeable over time. Their appearance varies considerably between individuals.
What causes neck lines?
Neck lines usually develop as a result of several factors working together, including:
The underlying cause varies from person to person, making an individual assessment an important part of the consultation.
Assessment
During your consultation, we’ll assess your neck in the context of your lower face and jawline. We’ll evaluate your skin quality, neck contours, muscle activity and the supporting tissues beneath the skin. Understanding the underlying cause helps determine whether management is appropriate for you.
Why assessment is important
Neck lines are not always caused by changes in the skin alone. In some people, muscle activity, skin quality, facial anatomy and changes in the supporting tissues all contribute to their appearance. Neck lines may also occur alongside changes in the jawline or lower face, making a comprehensive assessment important. Without understanding the underlying cause, management may not address your individual concerns or achieve an outcome that meets your expectations.
Individualised management
During your consultation, we’ll discuss whether management is appropriate for your individual concerns. If so, we’ll explain the available options, together with the expected benefits, limitations and potential risks, so you can make an informed decision about your care.
